FUNDRAISERS will welcome a popular band at a charity gig in Weymouth next month.

Organisers of the Gimme Shelter homelessness fundraiser say they are 'ecstatic' to have booked Pronghorn to headline their next concert, which will raise cash for The Lantern.

Hailing from Dorset, Pronghorn enjoyed success during the 1990s as pioneers of 'Cowpunk' - a mixture of punk, country and rockabilly.

However there's a double dose of nostalgia to be had on the night, as former Weymouth double act Bebe and Paolo reform for a special performance.

It's been almost a decade since the duo reigned supreme as king and queen of the town's gig circuit - renowned for penning original numbers with lyrics that were both racy and relatable.

Bebe Black-Rose said: "It's the first time I've performed with Paolo in nearly ten years. I'm nervous but excited to be back on stage again - and it's for a brilliant cause."

Bandmate Paul Sharod, who is also co-organiser of the Gimme Shelter nights, said: "We're still deciding which songs to play, but there will definitely be a few old favourites.

"Gigging with Bebe has always been a very natural, fluid thing, it's never felt forced. I wouldn't be surprised if we decided most of our set on the night.

"We've remained good friends since we last played and I'm looking forward to performing together again. Who knows, if it goes down well maybe we'll do more gigs in the future."

Martin Saint, co-organiser of Gimme Shelter, said: "In these divisive times it's more important than ever for everyone to channel the spirit of Christmas.

"I'm sure we all agree it's about being kind to one another and this is a great opportunity for people to do just that whilst celebrating the community spirit we have.

"We're still pinching ourselves that the legendary Pronghorn are headlining - if you haven't heard of them, you won't be disappointed."

Money raised at the event will support the Lantern charity. There will also be a drop-off point at the event for food to be donated to food banks.

The event starts at 1pm - late on Saturday December 7 at the Wyke Smugglers pub, Portland Road, Weymouth.
