Are you passionate about protecting the county’s wildlife?

The Dorset Wildlife Trust is offering people the chance to help safeguard two special species in Dorset.

On Brownsea Island, only around 200 red squirrels remain. The island is one of the few places in the south of England that the species still thrives, and the trust is asking people to help by adopting a squirrel.

An adoption pack can be sent by post to participants, which will include a certificate, red squirrel photograph, pin badge and a red squirrel soft toy. There will also be facts about the squirrels on Brownsea Island and an update from the warden.

The trust is also offering people the chance to adopt a seahorse in the Studland Bay Marine Conservation Zone.

A spokesman said: “By adopting a seahorse you will help us enable Dorset’s marine environment to recover from decades of decline.”

The adoption pack will include a certificate and facts about the seahorses.

The trust says that the adoption donations will help them work to protect the habitats of these animals.
