Are you an expectant dad? Do you know someone who is?

BeingDad is now offering a BecomingDad workshop - a two hour session aimed at providing the necessary support for new dads - from Weymouth and Dorchester.

The workshop, which is run by dads for dads, offers information about what to expect, from labour and through the first few weeks after the birth.

BeingDad later hopes to include post-natal mental health courses and dad-baby play sessions.

Tom, an expectant father at the first workshop, said: "I would recommend the Being Dad class to any "Dad to be". The class gives you basic practical skills and knowledge and certainly helped me feel more confident about becoming a father."

Ryan, who attended one of the workshops, spoke positively about the instructor.

He said: "George is a very relaxed and confident person who put all us ‘dads to be’ at ease very quickly. He told us about all practical and helpful information that you may otherwise not consider, all from a dads point of view. Coming away from two hours with George has eased a lot of panic and made me feel more comfortable and, above all, even more excited for my little one to arrive. I will certainly be attending again in the future."

BeingDad aims to have 100 dads attend its workshops by the end of 2020. It is also working on a two hour Paediatric First Aid workshop to offer information for dads about what to do if their child falls ill.

A spokesman said: "BeingDad wants to create an environment for dads to thrive, learn and build a support network on a par with what's available for Mum’s. Our aim is to run informal workshops to educate Dads-to-be on what to expect when their little one arrives, from labour through to the first weeks with baby. Eventually we aim to incorporate post-natal mental health courses for Dads, Dad and baby play sessions and baby first."
