You may have heard of Pimp My Ride but what about Pimp My Scooter?

A terminally ill man from Milborne St Andrew has upgraded his mobility scooter with the latest technology.

Robert Strawbridge, 66, purchased his mobility scooter from Dorchester Mobility.

He has since fitted it out with trendy gadgets, including reversing cameras, a cigarette lighter and a music system.

His efforts echo the hit TV show Pimp My Ride in which motorists have their vehicles fully upgraded.

Mr Strawbridge says people often stare when he drives past 'blasting out' his music in Dorchester town centre.

He explained: "I love it and so does everyone else when I drive through Dorchester with my music blasting out.

"It was all my idea. I bought a scooter from Dorchester Mobility and then purchased all the components I needed to upgrade it.

"I then went to a man in Weymouth who fitted it all for me.

"I am terminally ill so I wanted to do something. I still want to be able to listen to a bit of music, and do things when I'm out on my scooter.

"I have a reversing camera, so if I'm in a shop and someone is talking to me I can see them. At the moment I can't turn around far enough to see them.

"I've also got parking sensors, so if I get too close to anything, it will let me know."

He added: "And I've got a cigarette lighter, so I can charge my sat nav if needed and there are USB ports for my music."

Mr Strawbridge is looking to install a car horn to his scooter.

He said people always stop and stare dumbfounded by it.

"They have never seen a scooter with a car radio and an aerial, it's unusual, but I feel quite proud when people stop in the street and look at it.

"Some look and say 'I like this'," he added.

Mr Strawbridge said aside from buying the components online, which he says were low cost, at around £10 per item, he spent £50 to £60 for the gadgets to be fitted.

Next year he hopes to enter his scooter into a number of carnival events being held across the county and asks people to look out for him.
