Drivers are being warned of hold-ups due to a number of roadworks – including on a main route through Weymouth.

Gas network company SGN will be working on the A354 Westwey Road outside the old gas holder site from Monday to Friday of next week.

Temporary traffic lights will control traffic 24 hours a day while this work takes place.

Dan Brown, spokesman for SGN said: "In close consultation with Dorset Council, we’re continuing to plan reinstatement work in Westwey Road.

"We carried out resurfacing work earlier this year following the decommissioning of our nearby gas holder site. However, we need to return to the area to complete further reinstatement.

"To ensure everyone’s safety and manage traffic flow, temporary traffic lights will be installed around our site.

"These lights will be manually operated during peak hours to help minimise disruption to motorists on this busy route."

Mr Brown said the company had finished decommissioning the gas holder site but there were currently no future plans for the site at present.

Elsewhere, roadworks continue in Abbotsbury Road outside the Londis store and post office for an ongoing project to change the layout and make junctions safer. Temporary lights are controlling traffic here too.

Other notable works which cause disruption include temporary lights on the A354 in Easton Lane/Easton Street, Portland from Tuesday to Thursday, lights on the B3157 coast road at Portesham from Tuesday to Friday, lights on Preston Beach Road on Tuesday various works along the A352 in the Broadmayne and Owermoigne area and also on the A353 around Poxwell.

Motorists are also reminded there will be traffic control on the A35 west of Winterbourne Abbas as National Grid removes pylons.

Two-way traffic lights will be in place to momentarily hold traffic travelling in both directions to allow construction vehicles to turn in the road.

This will occur approximately four times an hour while traffic management is operational – 9.30am-3pm on Monday to Thursday of next week and also from Monday, December 2 to Thursday, December 5.
