A SERIES of festive concerts by The Ridgeway Singers & Band will take place in various locations across Dorset this December.

In a joyous celebration of all things local, the concerts will feature traditional West Gallery carols, local songs, dance tunes and midwinter stories.

The Ridgeway Singers & Band were created as part of the Rooting Around the Ridgeway project led by Artsreach. The project's aims were to explore the traditional music and folk songs of the Ridgeway, and to stimulate the creation of new works inspired by the landscapes and musical customs of the area.

The carols featured during these festive concerts originate from a local tradition of music making in villages, which flourished during the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century.

The group's album, One Bright Star, will be available to purchase for £10 at the performances.

The Ridgeway Singers & Band will perform at Weymouth Library on Wednesday, December 11; at St Christopher's Church in Winfrith on Sunday, December 15, and at The Dorford Centre in Dorchester on Friday, Dorchester.
