A west Dorset dance group missed out on winning a prestigious competition.

Kelci’s Dance Academy from Salway Ash took part in Weldmar Hospicecare's Strictly Junior contest.

They were given 10 weeks to learn and perfect a new and unique dance routine which they performed to a packed audience and a panel of judges at Weymouth Pavilion in the finale.

It was a glitzy and glamorous evening – and the event raised £7,000 for Weldmar.

But there could be only one winner – and it was Weymouth-based Evolution Dance who were crowned champions.

Matt Smith, Weldmar’s Director of Fundraising and Marketing, who hosted the show said: “We are extremely grateful to all of the schools who took part in our second Strictly Junior event. They have obviously all worked very hard over the past few months to put on a great show for our audience.

"The confidence and talent that they demonstrated on the night shone through their performances, scoring high marks from the judges and audience alike.

"A massive thank you from everyone at Weldmar to the schools, judges and the audience for supporting our second Junior event – what a show."

Strictly Junior, now in its second year, is the sister event to Weldmar’s Strictly Ballroom, where 16 local people learn to dance and put on a show at Weymouth Pavilion, with the fifth show scheduled for next year.
