Dance your (Christmas) socks off and help raise money for less-fortunate children at a Weymouth nightclub this weekend.

The Closet in Maiden Street is hosting its annual bash in support of the Dorset Echo Christmas Toy Appeal tomorrow.

This year the party will get started early - a fundraising evening is also being held on tonight to help the Toy Appeal buy Christmas presents for youngsters facing poverty.

Tomorrow, the star of the show will be drag sensation Wilma Fingadoo, who will be taking to the stage from 11pm.

On both Friday and Saturday, DJ Steve Mullins and DJ Matty will be spinning tunes at the popular nightspot, to keep the crowds dancing until the early hours.

All money taken on the door and collected during the event will go towards the Echo's Toy Appeal - now in its 20th year.

There will also be a charity raffle - those who take part will have the chance to win a £200 drinks hamper, among other prizes.

The Dorset Echo Christmas Toy Appeal collects donations throughout the festive season to make sure that less-fortunate babies, children and young teenagers will wake up to presents on Christmas morning.

Manager Jamie Crage said: “Make sure you don't miss a fun night of entertainment - it's going to be a great party as always.

“Drag queen Wilma will be a fantastic host for the evening, helping us raise money to buy as many toys as possible.

"We will be raising money all weekend so any donations will be gratefully appreciated - all the proceeds will be going towards helping children less fortunate this Christmas.”

The events start at 9pm and tickets cost £2 each, or five for £6.

Other ways to support the Toy Appeal include buying an extra present while Christmas shopping this year, and donating it to one of the charity collection bins at shops and businesses around the area.
