AN angel parade will take place in Weymouth town centre this week.

The parade will start at the top of St Mary’s Street near to Marks and Spencer and will finish at St Mary’s Church.

Children are encouraged to gather their wings and halos for the event.

On arrival at the church there will be the announcement of the birth of Jesus and a cup of hot chocolate for guests.

The event which will take place on Saturday, December 14 at 10.45am.

It is being held as part of the Weymouth Christmas Angels project which is being run by Julie Hursthouse of Weymouth Town Council, Jackie Dukes - the Help and Care community partner, and Neil Biles of St Mary’s Church.

For the last couple of months, Weymouth’s Let’s Make It group have been busy knitting Christmas angels.

These angels have been hidden around the town centre and surrounding areas in the hope that they will bring peace and hope to those that find them.

The angels have been given a tag with a link to a Facebook page, which people can visit to post where the angel was found.

Local schools have also been getting involved in the project by making paper angels, which will be on display at St Mary’s Church from Tuesday, December 10.

According to Mr Biles, people can come into the church and make their own paper angels which will be hung up around the building too.

Jackie Dukes said: “This has been a great opportunity for many groups and people to work together to spread a little joy at Christmas. And not to leave it there, we are working together with the amazing Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens and members of St Aldhelms Church in Spa Road to bring you The Nativity in the Gardens for the second year running at 6pm on Thursday, December 12 beginning at the tennis court end of the gardens.”
