Coastguards were called following fears people had been cut off by the tide between Charmouth and Lyme Regis.

Lyme Regis Coastguard team was called on Friday at 5.05pm to reports of people cut off by the tide in ‘fading light’ between the two spots.

A coastguard spokesman said: “On arrival the team searched the shoreline from Charmouth and Lyme Regis using night sights, but nothing was seen as the tide was dropping.

“The officer in charge tasked three members of the team to walk the beach between Charmouth and Lyme Regis.

“Whilst searching, there were signs that some people had walked the beach as the tide was falling but had got to Lyme Regis safely.

“With nothing found the team were stood down.”

Coastguard said it was a ‘false alarm with good intent’.

They added: “Remember for emergencies on the cliffs, beach, sea or tidal rivers, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
