Work on demolishing the Cadet hut in Gundry Lane, Bridport is expected to start in the new year.

Dorset Council has decided that the Wessex Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association can remove the timber-clad building under what are known as ‘permitted rights’. The association says the hut is no longer in use and longer complies with Ministry of Defence standards.

The demolition will include the temporary removal of the left entrance gate to allow access for an eight-ton excavator, skips and skip lorries.

Once the building has been demolished the Dorset Army Cadet Force (Bridport Detachment) will continue to use the area for training and as a parade area.

It is expected that work will start on February 3rd and should be completed by February 22nd.
