GLAD Rag Production Company’s Christmas Spectacular has become something of a festive staple in Christchurch.

Now in its eighth year, the show just keeps on getting better and better and, judging by the packed audience, it continues to grow in popularity.

For me, the appeal is in the charming innocence of the storyline – this year, Dracula wants to take over Christmas and celebrate a second Halloween – the simply stunning costumes (created by a team that supplies the West End) and the polished professionalism of every single member of the cast.

From the tiniest little elf, right through to the more senior stars, every single one performs with an unrivalled energy and excitement – they are clearly having just as much fun on stage as we are in the audience.

Not only that, the vocal and dance talent in this company is outstanding.

Tilly Ingle was pitch perfect as Santa’s innocent daughter, Joy, while Matt Stockham brought the comic relief brilliantly as bashful elf Squash.

Despite a few sound issues, Bryan Newman was suitably jolly as Santa and a mention must also go to Kim Holder, as Ivy, whose ‘drunken’ rendition of Jingle Bells was yet another highlight - alongside the return of the comical 12 Days of Christmas and If I Were Not on Santa’s Team.

If you’re feeling a bit low on Christmas spirit, this show will certainly get you feeling festive.

Fang-tastically feel-good fun - not to be missed.

Christmas Spectacular runs at the Regent Centre in Christchurch until Christmas Eve.
