THIEVES raided a barn before setting it on fire.

The incident took place in the area of Gascoigne’s Lane, south of Shaftesbury.

Dorset Police was called to reports of a barn on fire at 11.43pm on Monday, December 2.

Officers attended the scene, along with the fire service and it was established that the cause of the fire was believed to be suspicious.

It was also reported that a number of items were believed to have been stolen from inside the barn, which was completely destroyed by the fire.

Police Constable Richard Cooke, of North Dorset police, said: “We have been continuing to make enquiries into this incident and I have now obtained an image of a set of ladders, which are the only items the victim can definitively confirm were taken due to the amount of damage caused to the property. The ladders are marked with a serial number ‘570122’ on the side.

“I would urge anyone who comes across these ladders for sale or has any information about the incident to please contact us.”
