Dorset Police is reminding people of the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs during new year festivities.

People are encouraged to remember that anyone driving under the influence poses a risk to their safety and that of other road users.

A police spokesman said: "If you have a road collision under the influence of drink/drugs, you risk losing your license and job, the respect of your family and friends, your freedom and even your life. Don’t be a loser. You could also kill or injure someone else."

The police add that if officers see someone is too intoxicated to drive - even if they are under the 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath legal limit - they can be charged with an offence.
