PEOPLE are being asked to make sure they know where to go for help when ill to prevent the spread of bugs over the winter season.

With local hospitals under increased strain during these chillier months, people are asked to familiarise themselves with where they should go if they have certain symptoms and conditions.

Anyone with minor injuries or complaints is asked to get the WaitLess app to help them get seen more quickly at wherever they need to be.

It can be downloaded on both Android and Apple devices.

While a large number of symptoms will clear up of their own accord, people can visit a pharmacy if their condition persists.

Most pharmacies will have consultation rooms for people who want to talk privately, and people can find their nearest one at nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-pharmacy

People are also urged to make sure they get their flu jab, as the illness can cause some very serious complications that can even be deadly.

The vaccine is offered free of charge under the NHS, which will not only protect you against the virus but also prevent you passing it on to others.

Anyone who is sick with symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting are asked not to visit hospitals and other healthcare settings until 72 hours after they have cleared.

Those who were due an appointment should call the number on the letter to rearrange it.

People who were due in hospital for a planned procedure or operation and have been unwell with any form of sickness, diarrhoea or flu like symptoms should ring in advance.

Hand washing with soap and water is also recommended.
