POLICE are asking people to be considerate of livestock when planning their fireworks displays for tonight.

Anyone intending to include fireworks in their New Year celebrations are warned of the impact that they can have on animals and livestock.

Those celebrating in rural areas should not set off fireworks near livestock, whether they are in a field or a building, police say.

A spokesman for Dorset Police Rural Crime Team said: "Whilst many of us like to celebrate with a fireworks display we politely ask that those organising one look to reduce the impact it has on animals and livestock.

"Fireworks must not be set off near livestock or near to any building that holds livestock.

"Likewise fireworks should not be set off near to any horses in a field.

"If you are holding a display in a rural area we ask that you warn any local farmers so that they can take the necessary precautions to protect their animals."
