SEPTEMBER

A PAINTING by Dorset artist Annie Freud was auctioned at Duke's auction house in Dorchester to raise money for local charity TheHorseCourse. The artwork, entitled Horses at Night, sold for £470.

DORSET'S much-loved resident dolphin Danny got up close and personal with a family at Lyme Bay, making waves and showing off for onlookers. Shannon Payne, who snapped a photo of the famous aquatic mammal, said: "We are very fortunate to have such beauty on our doorstep."

A BOAT was saved by firefighters after it started to sink in West Bay harbour. Water was pumped out of the vessel which enabled it to float and be recovered.

OCTOBER

THE iconic Colmers Hill was captured shrouded in fog on a chilly autumn morning by photographer James Loveridge.

A CHOCOLATE spaniel called Millie was rescued by coastguards from Lyme Regis after she fell off a cliff between Seaton and Beer. Milly was spotted and recovered by the coastguard team at the base of the cliff.

A CLIFF fall at Charmouth Beach was blamed on heavy downpours amid recent storms. The slide prompted fears that the area was unstable and walkers were advised to take caution.

DANNY the dolphin returned to the headlines when he became tangled in rope attached to a buoy in Swanage Bay. He was eventually freed by a brave fisherman.

NOVEMBER

A WEST Dorset couple who had spent nine months walking the coast of Britain returned home to Lyme Regis. Simon and Susan Murphy, who live in Uplyme, had walked for 281 days and covered 4,500 miles.

A ROAD in Mosterton was named in memory of local chef Naomi Haskell, who died in 2018 from Meningococcal Septicaemia Meningitis at the age of 24. After she died, villagers and the parish council voted unanimously to create Naomi Close in a new development in the village, The Bushells.

THE Dorset Wildlife Trust announced plans to reintroduce the beaver to the local area, hundreds of years after they were last seen in the county. The DWT, which believes the beaver will bring numerous benefits to the area's wildlife, has identified a site for their reintroduction.

SAINT Catherine's Chapel in Abbotsbury was illuminated by candlelight to mark St Catherine's Day. Candles, which had been bought and decorated by local business owners and members of the community, were lit and placed in a circle on the hill. The event, which only started last year, raised £474 for the Friends of St Nicholas Church.

DECEMBER

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy from Lyme Regis donated more than 70 advent calenders to elderly residents at three local care homes. Keiron Scott regularly visited a family friend at the home with his mother, Kelly, and ran a successful appeal to purchase calenders for 76 residents.

MORE than 6,000 people signed a petition calling for dogs not to be banned from the beach during the winter and spring months. Currently, dogs are allowed on the beaches during this time without a lead, but Dorset Council is reviewing this current Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). A public consultation is expected to take place next year.

A PHOTOGRAPHER devoted 365 days to capturing a west Dorset beauty spot. Doug Chalk, from Bridport, challenged himself to take a picture of Colmer’s Hill every day of the year and post it on social media. He has released his seventh Colmer’s Hill calendar.
