MEET new people, gain new skills and spend time outdoors by becoming a volunteer at Arne Nature Reserve.

The RSPB site is inviting people to find out more about the opportunities available with two open days being held during January.

Roz Aldred, membership recruitment manager, said: “Arne’s wildlife is incredibly special, and the reserve is home to some amazing and rare creatures. We are looking for volunteers to join our welcome team and help us to inspire people about this stunning reserve. This is a varied role and no previous wildlife experience is needed, just an enthusiasm for nature and a passion to share this with others.”

Welcome volunteer Chris Miller said: “RSPB nature reserve at Arne is such a beautiful place to volunteer, I really enjoy my time here, being part of a very friendly team. There are many things to do but the main part of the role in the visitor centre is just being friendly, offering a warm, smiling welcome and chatting to all of the reserve’s visitors, providing them with information and generally being helpful.”

There will be two taster sessions at RSPB Arne reserve on Sunday, January 19 and Wednesday, January 22 from 12pm to 2.30pm. Opportunities include helping with school visits and wildlife walk leaders, to practical conservation. For more information email volunteering.dorset@rspb.org.uk. The RSPB will also be at the Volunteer Fair in the Eco Hub, Dolphin Shopping Centre, Poole on January 15.
