ONE of Dorset’s largest holiday park operators are celebrating having donated £80,000 to the Jurassic Coast Trust.

West Dorset Leisure Holidays is a family-run group of holiday parks on the Jurassic Coast, and has raised funds for the trust through an optional donation being added to customer bookings. Over the last ten years, these donations have accumulated over £80,000 for the trust.

The trust works to protect, conserve and educate people about the Jurassic Coast, which is England’s only natural World Heritage Site. The trust also aims to engage people and organisations with the coast’s incredible stories and is dedicated to creating a unified Jurassic Coast.

The Jurassic Coast is comprised of 95 miles of the south coast between Orcombe Point in Exmouth and Old Harry Rocks near Swanage. It displays 185 million years of the Earth’s history, offering a globally unique walk through time.

Martin Cox from West Dorset Leisure Holidays said: “It is great to be able to contribute to the Jurassic Coast Trust. We are very lucky to live in West Dorset and for our visitors to be able to give something back to the local area is an added benefit for all of us.”

Guy Kerr, of the Jurassic Coast Trust said: “Having the support of West Dorset Leisure Holidays is absolutely critical in delivering our charitable aims of protecting and educating people about the Jurassic Coast.”

He continued, “The amount that they have raised from their guests, thousands of holidaymakers who love and enjoy the coastline, is truly inspirational. Reaching the £80,000 milestone is a tremendous achievement and an example to businesses coast-wide.”

The generosity of West Dorset Leisure Holidays has inspired more than 70 other local businesses, small and large, to partner up with the Jurassic Coast Trust and contribute towards the ongoing protection of the World Heritage Site.
