BOLLARDS could be installed to prevent drivers parking on a grass verge in Damers Road, Dorchester.
The solution is being suggested to the increasing number of vehicles pulling up on the grass bank at the top end of the road to avoid parking restrictions.
Traffic wardens are powerless to act because the verge is not, technically, part of the highway and parking there is not illegal.
Cllr Les Fry said he has seen drivers spinning in the mud as they try to get on or off the verge: “It’s not ideal to have people parking there, but it’s all part of our parking problems throughout the town,” he said.
He told town councillors that other problem spots nearby included Fourgates Road which he said might need a limited amount of double yellow lines to tackle poor parking, often on the pavements.
Cllr Fry said Dorset Council would be asked to put wooden posts around the Damers Road verge to prevent people parking on the grass there. He has also asked for the issue to be put on the agenda for the next town council planning committee meeting for further discussion.
