SEVERAL flood warnings are in force across the Dorset coast.

There are reports of fallen trees and travel disruption mainly affecting the east of the county.

There was some flooding affecting traffic on the A35 at the Baker's Arm roundabout but it is now passable.

In South Dorset residents have been told to be careful as ‘large and powerful’ waves may crash over sea defences.

A flood warning was in place overnight for Chiswell Beach on Portland.

There is a possibility of flooding on the A354, Brandy Row, Pebble Lane and Victoria Square.

A similar warning is in place for Preston Beach in Weymouth with strong winds predicted.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “We believe there is a possibility of flooding for The Sea Life Centre and the Preston Beach Road area of Lodmoor.”

Flooding is also expected at West Bay Harbour.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for the area.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “There is the possibility of flooding of West Bay Harbour and a tidal stretch of the River Brit.

“We are closely monitoring the situation.

“Our incident response staff are checking defences and closing gates.

“Please stay aware in case further warnings are issued and stay away from large waves as they are dangerous.”

Meanwhile, a similar warning has been issued for Lyme Regis Harbour.

The flood warning was in place last night.

It said there was a risk of flooding to properties to roads and farmland around high tide.

Many inland areas of South Dorset are also being affected and remain on flood alert.

River levels have risen in Purbeck and are continuing to rise at the Swanage Prospect river gauge due to heavy rainfall.

There is also a possibility of flooding for the Corfe Castle and Swanage areas.
