Residents and business owners showed up en masse to voice their support for their town’s Tourist Information Centre as it faces closure.

At the first meeting of the year for Lyme Regis Town Council, residents showed up to let it be known that they support the Tourist Information Centre as a valuable asset to the town, including an owner of a B&B in the town saying it is a very useful service for their guests.

It comes at a time when the future of the TIC is uncertain.

Last month, it was announced that Dorset Council had been given notice by the Town Council to vacate the premises by March 31 of this year.

Town clerk John Wright said that ‘it was only after the breakdown of discussions that the town council took the decision to serve notice on Dorset Council to vacate the premises’.

Dorset Council is currently seeking the public’s views on the matter by means of a public consultation.

A Drop-in event will take place at the Woodmead Halls on January 22 from 10am to 12noon.

The online survey regarding the matter can also be found at dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/lymeregistic

Print copies can be acquired at the TIC, Lyme Regis library or by calling 01305 225000.

The consultation is open until February 10.
