A woman has been injured after falling on the coast path.

Kind walkers and café staff have been praised for rushing to her aid.

Emergency services were called to Burton Bradstock shortly before midday on Wednesday to reports of a woman, aged in her late 60s, with a suspected broken leg.

She had been walking along the coastal path to the east of Hive Beach when she slipped and injured her right leg.

West Bay coastguards gained off-road access to the coastal path and were able to drive right to the incident location.

On arrival, the woman was being treated by paramedics who were providing pain relief.

Her leg was stabilised with a vacuum splint before the woman was placed in a stretcher and carried down the coastal path to the Hive Beach car park where the ambulance was waiting.

A spokesman for West Bay coastguard rescue team said: "We wish her a full and speedy recovery.

"Thanks goes out to passers-by and staff at the Hive Beach Café for providing assistance and blankets before the emergency services arrived.

"Stay safe on the coast this winter, but in a cliff or coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
