CORFE CASTLE 2

BRIDPORT RESERVES 4

BRIDPORT Reserves claimed a magnificent 4-2 victory at Corfe Castle as Riley Weedon bagged a hat-trick in their Dorset Premier League clash.

Weedon, who was denied by numerous fabulous saves from the Corfe keeper early on, put Shaun Annetts’ men ahead just before half-time with a delicious free-kick.

Bridport continued to dominate after the break when an intricate flowing move involved Tony Carlile set up Brandon Scadding to send in a first-time ball for Weedon to slam home.

Iain Kay got Corfe back into it, beating Bees’ keeper Jordon Scadding to the ball before finishing from a wide position 18 yards out.

Bridport restored their two-goal cushion when Ryan Leader beat the Corfe right-back for pace and smashed home the rebound after his initial shot was saved.

The talismanic Weedon completed his hat-trick after 75 minutes before Corfe added a consolation at the death.

Speaking post-match, Annetts said: “We played well for the majority of the game and I like everything about us.

“Defensively we looked a bit better than usual, the midfield worked tirelessly and we looked a threat going forward.

“We thoroughly deserved the win and the scoreline, if anything, flatters Corfe – their best player was their keeper.

“Riley scored a fantastic hat-trick and was outstanding. He had two or three other chances where the keeper made worldies (saves) and could quite easily have come away with six goals.”

Annetts’ men host in-form Merley in league action on Saturday (3pm).
