Rivers and streams in Dorset are at risk of flooding, the Environment Agency has warned.

Weymouth rivers and streams are currently on flood alert.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “River levels remain high at the Broadwey river gauge as a result of recent rainfall and saturated ground conditions.

“Consequently, the risk of flooding remains.

“We believe there is a possibility of flooding for the River Wey to Radipole Lake, Preston Brook and River Jordan.

“There is rain forecast for the next 24 hours and we expect river levels to remain high for several days at least.”

Officers are closely monitoring the situation.

Elsewhere in Dorset, the River Stour, the River Frome and the River Piddle are on flood alert.

The Environment Agency has also issued a flood warning for Lower Frome from East Stoke to Wareham.

A spokesman for the agency said: “Flooding of roads, farmland and property remains possible.

“We believe there is a possibility of flooding for areas in East Stoke, Holmebridge, Stoboroug, Stoborough Green, Wareham, Redcliffe, Ridge and Swineham.

“Further rainfall is due today and tomorrow and then the forecast is set to improve.”

There is also a risk of groundwater flooding in the west of the county.

According to the Environment Agency, rain is forecast with up to 8mm expected today and 7mm tomorrow.

Officers said sewage systems and roads are being affected.

They added: “We encourage residents with pumps and other property resilience measures to put them in place and ensure they are working.”
