A man has been arrested after a van crashed into a telegraph pole.

It is understood the pole and wires were knocked over, blocking a road.

The road between Wool and Wareham was closed following the incident yesterday evening.

Purbeck police said the A352 between the Bovington roundabout and the turning for Lulworth at East Stoke iwas closed due to the incident.

Motorists were told to seek an alternative route.

Information from the police earlier suggested a pylon and cables were brought down.

Dorset Police said said a telegraph pole was knocked over as a result of a crash.

A spokesman said: "We received a report at 10.33am on Sunday of a single vehicle collision on the A352 Wareham Road between Wool and Wareham.

"It was reported that the vehicle had collided with a telegraph pole.

"A white Peugeot Boxer van was located nearby and a 33-year-old Wareham man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences. He is assisting officers with their enquiries.

"As a result of the damage to the telegraph pole, road closures have been put in place. The local authority also attended and electrical engineers were contacted."
