A WAR time building, used by the RAF at Ringstead, could be converted into a holiday home – together with a nearby barn.

The Westdown Farm site at Upton is said to have remained almost unchanged since it was established as an RAF camp during the Second World War, supporting anti-aircraft guns and searchlights mounted on the cliffs above Ringstead.

The site is already used for two holiday caravans.

A planning application asks to convert the wartime shed into a single storey holiday home with two small bedrooms, a lounge and a kitchen/dining area. The next-door barn would be converted to a four-bed holiday home with both buildings served by a new septic tank.

The application says that the site is not visible from Upton Lane because of existing hedges and mature hedgerow trees.

Comments on the application to Dorset Council are open until February 11th.
