FIREFIGHTERS from Bridport were among the crews which tackled a major fire at a bakery.
Up to 10 appliances, including crews from Bridport, responded to the scene at Rousdon Village Bakery just over the border into east Devon yesterday morning after a fire spread from an adjoining garage. The fire service said a person inside the premises escaped before crews arrived.
The A3052 between Lyme Regis and Colyford was closed in both directions from Combpyne Lane to Trinity Hill Road.
Speaking yesterday, a spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to the bakery at around 8.40am and there were up to 10 appliances at one stage, it has been scaled back now.
"Smoke and flames were issuing from the building and there was one person inside who managed to escape before we arrived.
"Its a three-storey building comprising a bakery and garage workshop. The fire started in the workshop and spread to the bakery.
"We are still on the scene but we are starting to scale back now."
