PLANS for two homes on the site of a former Portland pub have met with an objection.

One neighbour to the Grove Road site claims the scheme would be an overdevelopment and lead to additional traffic problems in the area.

Permission has already been given for the conversion of the former Clifton Hotel into eight flats.

The new application is for two three-bedroomed detached houses to the rear of the site, facing a block of garages, with access via the car park to the side of the existing main building.

In a letter to Dorset Council Grove Road residents Graham and Judith Copp say: “The parking situation along Grove Road is appalling.  For much of the day residents' cars are parked along the road on both sides which means that traffic going either way has to drive up the kerb and onto the pavement to pass the cars.” The couple claim that redeveloping the former pub site will make the situation worse.

Two parking spaces are allowed for in the scheme – one for each property.

Public comments on the application remain open until February 2nd.
