Sixth form students celebrate success at awards ceremony

The Sir John Colfox Academy held its senior prize giving last month.

Awards were handed out for outstanding achievements in individual subjects as well as some special awards for individual achievements.

Many students returned from university to pick up an award for their A level results, whilst there were also awards for students currently in years 11 to 13.

Among the prize winners was Leia Benneyworth who won the headteacher’s award for progress.

The Sir John Colfox award for excellence for best overall performance by a boy was given jointly to Thaisen Chant and Brian Robertshaw.

Meanwhile, the award for best overall performance by a girl was given to Dahlia Twigger.

The school governors' award for progress in sixth form was given to Benjamin Cantrell and the award for best contribution to the school and community was awarded to Esther Stone.

Headteacher Mr Adam Shelley said: “We have such a lot to celebrate at Colfox with some fantastic A level and GCSE results last year and looking at the mock exam results we are in for another outstanding set this year. A school is more than just the results it is about working together for success and many students here have contributed in other ways to the schools success whether that be in volunteering, involved in the Rights Respecting Schools work or indeed just getting involved in the huge array of clubs on offer here”.

As well as the student success there was also a special award presented to Mr Martin Stones who has been a Governor for 19 years including eight years as its chairman.

Mr Stones will still be part of the school as a member of the Minerva Learning Trust Board.
