Trains to and from Weymouth are being affected by a derailment between Southampton Central and Basingstoke.

Disruption is expected to the end of the day and trains travelling through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

A spokesman for South Western Railway said: “We have been informed of a freight train derailing at Eastleigh Station which resulted in all lines being blocked.

“The line through Eastleigh towards London Waterloo has now reopened, meanwhile the line towards Southampton remains blocked.

“To assist you with your journey today your tickets will be accepted, at no extra cost to yourself on: 

- Great Western Railway services between Portsmouth Harbour and Salisbury via Southampton Central / Weymouth via Westbury to Salisbury. Also services between Basingstoke / Reading and London Paddington.

- Yellow Buses Route 1 in the Bournemouth area

- Cross Country Trains between Bournemouth and Basingstoke

- Southern Rail services between Southampton Central and Clapham Junction

"We have replacement buses between Fareham, Southampton Central, Eastleigh and Basingstoke. These will also call at intermediate stations. Please see station staff or use the help points for more information on replacement buses and alternative transport options.

"If you are travelling to stations between Basingstoke and Southampton Central, please change at Basingstoke for a replacement bus service.

"If you are travelling from London Waterloo towards Southampton / Poole / Weymouth your train may be diverted and your journey will take longer. 

“We are very sorry for any delays that this may cause to your journey.”
