A man who was jailed for drug supply offences has been ordered to hand over more than £60,000 by a court.

Alexander Joseph Gordon, aged 33, was sentenced to three years in prison in August last year after admitting two charges of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply, two offences of possessing class B drugs with intent to supply and money laundering.

Dorset Police said he returned to the same court for a hearing as part of Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) proceedings and was ordered to pay £62,154.

The force said officers attended Gordon’s address in Jay Walk in Gillingham on June 2 2019 and following searches of the house and a rucksack found nearby they seized a large quantity of class A drugs cocaine and ecstasy as well as the class B drugs cannabis and ketamine and more than £40,000 in cash.

Analysis of the cocaine and ketamine seized estimated the total value of the drugs to be between £10,160 and £21,380.

At the POCA hearing last Friday the court ordered that the total benefit figure of Gordon’s offending was £94,763.24. It was determined that the available amount was £62,154, which Gordon will have three months to pay or he will have to serve a further six months in prison.

The cash seized by officers at Gordon’s address will go toward paying the available amount.

Detective Constable Scott Brimicombe, of the Financial Investigation Unit, said after the case: “We are committed to ensuring that when offenders are sentenced we use POCA legislation where it is available and appropriate to ensure their illegal earnings are recovered.

“As with all Proceeds of Crime confiscation orders, the outstanding benefit figure is still owed and the case will be reviewed in the future to ascertain if the defendant has acquired any further assets.”
