POLICE seized six cars and clocked five drivers doing a combined speed of 507mph along the A30.

Dorset Police's No Excuse team had a busy shift as they targeted rogue drivers in North Dorset.

A spokesman said: "We started our shift by visiting the Gryphon School to carry out speed checks around the school and to assist with other aspects of road safety. We detected four vehicles exceeding the speed limit near to the school within a short period.
"We also spoke with drivers around parking issues. The team also boarded school coaches to make sure seatbelts were being used. The pupils were very polite and a credit to the school.

"One of the drivers stopped speeding said "I had to get passed the parked cars".

"One of our cars then stopped a blue rover due to the driver not wearing a seat belt, it was stopped in Cold Harbour car park after being seen on Bristol Road. The driver had no insurance and the MOT had expired in Oct 2019. The driver said "it is what it is". This will cost at least £650 along with 6 points.(fines plus recovery fees)

"Whilst waiting for recovery for the above vehicle a Renault Scenic pulled into the car park and asked the officers to move out of the way of a parking space, a check on the vehicle revealed no tax and no insurance! This vehicle was also seized and the driver was reported.

"Whilst waiting for both vehicles to be seized a red Vauxhall Astra pulled into the car park...... it had no insurance and the driver didn't have a licence, this was fully admitted by the driver. He said "I will make sure I have it next time"

"Wait.... there's more, whilst waiting for all three cars to be collected a driver drove past the police car (with our lights illuminated ) on his phone. This driver was reported and will receive 6 points and a £200 fine.

"A BMW was seized outside Gryphon school for no insurance, the driver stated that he couldn't afford it as he had lost his job, he now has a job but had forgot to get his insurance. The vehicle was seized, he was then picked up by his mother...... however her tax had expired last year, she was also dealt with for this offence.

"A Ford Focus was stopped due to a dirty number plate, PNC showed no insurance, the driver stated that he was going to get it last night...... it's a bit late for that. He was already on 6 points for no insurance, he has been reported to court.

"We also carried out speed checks on the A30 at Babylon Hill , the highest speed recorded last night was 106 mph, he said " I was hurrying to my girlfriends house". He will be attending Magistrates Court.

"An Alfa Romeo was detected travelling at 102mph on the A30, he was just going to a friends house. Due to his speed he will be attending Court, unfortunately for him he had not taxed his car since August 2019 so it was seized.

"We also dealt with a vehicle with defective lights, a vehicle with no front number plate and mobile phone offences.

"Our aim is to make the roads of Dorset safer for all road users. Although we document our offences detected on here the vast majority of Dorset drivers are safe law abiding drivers but the few can easily ruin it for the majority.

"We deal with offences at the most appropriate level based on what we have seen and the information available."
