POPULAR food delivery company, Deliveroo, has begun operations in Weymouth.

Customers can order food from big names such as KFC and Prezzo as well as local businesses including The Three Chimneys Smokehouse & Grill and Ming Wah through the service. The company is also looking for up to 50 people in Weymouth to join them as riders.

A spokesman said: "Launching in Weymouth is a key milestone for Deliveroo. Weymouth has a thriving foodie community and a wide range of restaurants, so we’re excited to connect them.

“We look forward to working with our new restaurant partners to reach a new customer base and expand their businesses. Deliveroo will also create work for up to 50 local riders and we are thrilled to offer a flexible role to the community. Deliveroo is focused on providing the ultimate food delivery experience. Customers have the option to schedule orders via the Deliveroo app up to one day in advance or receive food as soon as possible between 5pm and 11pm on weekdays and 11.30am and 11pm on weekends, from a variety of independent eateries, traditional takeaways and high-quality chain restaurants.”

Until March 22, the company is offering a 25 per cent discount for orders from certain participating restaurants with a “25% off” tag. The discount requires a £20 minimum spend.

Deliveroo was founded by William Shu and Greg Orlowski in 2013. Since then, it has expanded to work with more than 80,000 restaurants and takeaways and has 60,000 riders to provide their service.

With headquarters in London, the company operates in more than 500 towns and cities throughout 13 markets.

Its reach covers Australia, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait as well as the United Kingdom.
