A FILM about the death of T E Lawrence has received critical acclaim.

Lawrence: After Arabia a film directed by Mark T J Griffin which was filmed in Dorset has won Best Feature Film at the Florence Film Awards and Honourable Mention: Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Film Awards (LAFAs).

Both are monthly film competitions recognising new films in the industry.

Lawrence: After Arabia has also made the official selection of the Direct Monthly Online Film Festival (DMOFF).

Mr Griffin said: “The film awards are great because they help give us a lot of press and publicity, especially when you put the laurels on the poster.

“The feedback has been good so far, so it’s starting to look like the film might get some recognition.”

Discussing his LAFA award, Mr Griffin said: “They said it was very watchable and we made a good film for the amount of money spent on it.”

Mr Griffin also said he will be entering some of the more prestigious film competitions, including Cannes, Sundance and Tribeca.

He explained: “We won’t enter some of the big festival until next year, so festivals like Sundance, which is the big one in America.

“That’s because you have to enter towards the end of the year and we missed the boat because the film wasn’t ready at the time, but we will enter in October.

“If we get anywhere with Tribeca that would be fantastic, that’s a big New York film festival owned by actor Robert De Nero. To get an official selection would be awesome.”

The film stars Brian Cox, Hugh Fraser, Michael Maloney, Nicole Ansari Cox and Tom Barber Duffy in the lead role.

It will be screened at venues across Dorset, including Bridport Electric Palace, the Mowlem in Swanage and Dorchester Corn Exchange.

The film focuses on the events that led up to Lawrence of Arabia’s death following a motorcycle accident near Bovington Camp on May 13 1935.
