A YOUNG girl who survived cancer will have her hair cut to raise money for children facing the illness.

Kalli Wright, aged eight, from Dorchester, will be having her hair cut tomorrow (Wednesday, February 19) at Bespoke Hair Academy for the Little Princess Trust.

Kalli suffered from Wilms tumour, a cancer which affects the kidneys, when she was 18-months old.

She hasn’t had her hair cut since finishing chemotherapy and will be having 10 inches taken off.

Her grandmother, Theresa Critchell, of Poundbury Crescent, said: “We have never hidden the fact that she has cancer and she has scars on her tummy. Fortunately she doesn’t remember any of it, but I think she’s starting to realise what cancer is.

“She has been asking us for a year if she could do the haircut. She saw one of our friend’s daughter do it and she has wanted to do it too.

“We have waited this long to make sure it’s what she definitely wants, we are all very proud of her. It shows she is beautiful on the inside and out.

“She says she wants to make someone happy when they’re sad.”

She added: “She’s been fundraising to have her hair made into wigs. She’s already raised more than £800, her friends and family have been sponsoring her.

“They all say it doesn’t surprise them that she’s doing something like this. Her personality is kind and generous and she will do anything for anyone.

“We’re all really proud of her. She’s doing it because she wants to make another child smile.”

The hairdressers at Bespoke Hair Academy have also been fundraising for Kalli.

Her grandmother explained: “They have been very kind and helpful and have been fundraising for her too.”

Despite having a large amount of her hair chopped off, Theresa says Kalli is ‘excited’.

The charity haircut will take place tomorrow morning at 9am.

Bespoke Hair Academy can be found at Station Approach on Great Western Road near to The Range.

The Little Princess Trust provides free real-hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss and helps fund vital research into childhood cancers.
