A FLAG will fly for the Commonwealth next month.

Weymouth Town Council will hold a ceremony on Commonwealth Day at its Commercial Road offices.

Led by the Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Graham Winter, the flag raising will be attended by councillors and is also open to members of the public.

Public gatherings to raise the Commonwealth flag on Commonwealth Day have become well-established as an annual demonstration of Commonwealth connection.

The council says they provide an opportunity for people of all walks of life to join their local community to celebrate Commonwealth Day in association with fellow citizens throughout the world.

It sees more than 850 other Commonwealth Flags raised in 53 member states of the Commonwealth. The theme for 2020 is ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’.

A specially written Commonwealth affirmation will be read out at each ceremony before the raising of the Commonwealth Flag.

You can attend the Weymouth event on Monday, March 9, at 10.30am.
