Wessex Water staff members volunteered for around 700 hours in Dorset last year, providing support to local community groups, organisation and charities.

In total, 108 members of staff from the company took part in volunteering activities, with Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) being one of the main organisations they supported.

Sally Cooper, corporate development officer at DWT, said: “During 2019, enthusiastic teams of Wessex Water volunteers visited Chesil Beach to carry out litter picks, with another group also building a bridge and putting up dormouse boxes at our Kilwood Nature Reserve.

“The work carried out by all of the volunteers has helped us to tackle important issues, such as marine pollution on Chesil Beach, while also improving one of our nature reserves for the benefit of wildlife and enjoyment of people – we are really grateful for their help.”

The water and sewerage company allows its employees to use one workday a year for volunteering, and community engagement co-ordinator Jennifer Staton organises these activities.

She said: “Our volunteers were very busy last year – they lent a helping hand to a number of community groups across Dorset.

“We look forward to supporting even more groups this year and urge any local charities or community groups that would like some help from our volunteers to get in contact.”
