FUNDRAISERS will make a splash this spring at the Dorchester & District Lions Club Fun Swim.

The family event will be held on the weekend of March 14-15, and the club is now inviting adults and children to sign up and take part. Groups which support blind people are also invited to register interest as they could benefit from fundraising.

In addition to the popular timed 55-minute team relays in the main pool, the Fun Swim is offering other activities and small pool challenges for children and adults of all ages and abilities. The inflatable challenge is back in the main pool, there are sessions of aquafit, kid's swim and aqua glide challenges together with the ever-popular aquaboats. This year the Fun Swim includes a new event in the main pool - the aqua board challenge - how long can you stay on board?

The event is held on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning at the 1610 Sports Centre in Coburg Road, Dorchester.

A spokesman for Dorchester Lions: “The Fun Swim is an event for the whole family. It gives everyone a chance to 'make a splash' and raise money for their favourite cause or charity and have fun at the same time."

For 2020, a term usually associated with 'perfect vision', Dorchester Lions decided it would be appropriate to help local charities and organisations that support the blind and visually impaired, nominating them as the main beneficiaries.

The club spokesman added: “Lions have a long history of serving the blind and visually impaired, and the strategic objective of Lions International is to prevent avoidable blindness and improve the quality of life for those who are blind or visually impaired.

"This year Dorchester Lions have nominated 'support for the visually-impaired & blind' as the main beneficiaries of their Fun Swim, and the club would like to hear from different local charities, groups and organisations who provide this help within our community."
