NINE homes may be built on the site of an existing property in Preston Road, Weymouth and another seven nearby.

Dorset Council has received an application to demolish the large detached home at No74 and build four flats and five houses on the site and a separate application to demolish No56 and build seven 2-bed flats.

Devon & Dorset Properties Ltd says if the application for No74 were approved it would also provide 16 car parking spaces on the site and enough room for 18 cycles.

It is asking for four 2-bed flats and five 4-bedrooms houses on the site which its application describes as ‘probably the largest plot on Preston Road’.

The company says the site previously had permission for redevelopment to create eight large 3-bed flats on top of a garaging and car parking courtyard.

The new proposal allows for the four flats at the front on the site, adjacent to flats on the adjoining site, but set forward from them, with one detached house close to the flats and the other four homes to the rear grouped around a turning circle.

Each home would have a garage under it and a parking space in front.

An agent for the developer says that the road between Chalbury Corner and Overcombe Corner has been characterised by many schemes for flats over the last 20 years – with nine blocks already in the road and two further sites with planning permission, or awaiting permission.

The Nylo Homes application for No56 allows for ten car spaces on its site, an increase of eight over the existing.

Both schemes can be seen in detail on the Dorset Council website with both applications listed to be decided by a planning officer rather than go before councillors at an area planning committee.
