POLICE arrested a suspected drug driver after he parked illegally.

The Dorset Police No Excuse team warned against the danger of drug-driving following the incident during patrols yesterday.

A spokesman said: "The first vehicle that came to the team's attention was parked on zig zags.

"When officers approached the vehicle, cannabis could be smelt coming from it.

"The driver stated he had recently smoked some.

"He was subsequently tested on a drug wipe and provided a positive result.

"He was promptly arrested (for the first time ever) and then released to await blood results.

"Some drivers don't understand - illegal drugs stay in your system longer than alcohol.

"Hopefully after this experience he will understand the severity of it and tell his friends and family to stay away from drugs if they drive."

Officers then conducted speed checks.

Five  offences were dealt with in a short period. All recorded in excess of 50% over the 40mph limit.

the spokesman added: "Do you know it takes approximately 15 minutes to stop and deal with speeding offences if no other issues are identified?

"Shortly after this another vehicle was stopped and seized due to no insurance.

"The driver stated she knew it had expired and she hadn't bothered to renew it.

"It will now cost more in the fine, recovery costs and increased future insurance premiums.

"Therefore it's not a good idea and not wise so why do people do it?"
