TO mark the release of their much-anticipated fifth album this spring, Welsh folk band Calan are setting out on tour.

They will perform at Dorchester Corn Exchange on Thursday, April 9.

Since they started out busking on the streets of Cardiff, Calan have toured across the world, performing at venues and festivals from Canada and the USA to Borneo and Australia.

Winners of Best Band at the 2019 Welsh Folk Awards, they will release their latest album, Kistvaen, on Friday, April 3. A kistvaen is a tomb or burial chamber formed from flat stone slabs in a box-like shape. If set completely underground, it may be covered by a tumulus. The word is derived from the Welsh cist (chest) and maen (stone).

Calan are known for exploring the traditional music of Wales, presenting reels, jigs and pagan harmonies which are accompanied by a pounding beat or a healthy dose of pop or rap. Their brand of high energy routines, verve and raw excitement is appealing to audiences across the country.

The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are £16, available from Dorchester Arts.
