Dorset took another battering as the wild weather continued with Storm Jorge sweeping in.

Following torrential rain on Friday - which has caused flooding in some areas - there was a weather warning for strong winds in place from midday Saturday lasting 24 hours.

Fire services have warned motorists to not drive through flood water after crews at Sherborne were sent over the border to rescue a driver whose vehicle was stuck.

Crews were deployed and walked through the water and pushed the vehicle to dry land before allowing the occupant out of the vehicle.

A spokesman said: "Please remember not to drive through flood water especially if it is flowing or you are unsure of the depth."

The storm has been christened 'Storm Jorge' by the Spanish meteorological service.

Residents who live near the coast should pay particular attention to sea spray and large waves, which could cause hazards.

Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are also likely, as are delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

On the Waterloo- Exeter line, which passes through north Dorset and east Devon South Western Railway suspended services on Saturdya between Axminster and Yeovil Junction due to flooding.

Meanwhile, in Purbeck, there were landslips in the Swanage area and Coastguards have warned the public to stay away.

Crews were called to Burlington Chine on Saturday morning and taped off the affected area.

A spokesman for Swanage Coastguard said: "With Storm Jorge approaching and the slip being active we would advise for people to stay clear and not to cross the taped off areas."

Dorset Council has been advised of the latest development.

It is the latest in a series of landslips in the area.

On February 15 part of the coastal path collapsed as Storm Dennis battered the area.

Sporting fixtures were postponed due to the weather on Saturday including the Lyme Regis FC first team at Bampton. Portland United's home game against AFC Stoneham is off due to water on the pitch and Bridport FC's game at Cribbs FC has been postponed following a pitch inspection this morning. Dorchester Town FC's away game at Yate Town FC is also off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Holme Lane between Wool and Wareham was blocked due to a fallen tree from Bindon Lane (East Stoke) to B3070 (West Holme).

On Friday some of the county's roads saw traffic disruption due to flooding, including the A35 at Winterbourne Abbas, the A352 East Knighton and the A352 Owermoigne to Warmwell Cross Roundabout.

It comes after the county took a battering earlier in the month when Storms Ciara and Dennis tore through the area.

Certain areas of Dorset are currently on flood warnings and alerts from the Environment Agency.

Flood warning, which require immediate action, are in place including the Bere Stream, the Crane, the Devils Brook, the Hooke, North Winterborne, north and south of the A354, the Piddle Valley, the Pimperne Brook, the South Winterbourne Valley, the Sydling, the Tarrant Valley, the Allen Vale at Monkton Up Wimborne and Wimborne St Giles, the Cerne Valley and the Lower Allen Vale.

Flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible, include the West of Dorset, Weymouth rivers and streams, Lower Frome and tributaries, and the River Piddle and tributaries.

A Dorset Council spokesman said: "If you’re driving, take extra care, as there is likely to be surface water and flooding on some roads. We’d advise people to keep away from the cliffs, as there is a higher risk of rock falls and slips."
