A MAN has been arrested following an assault in a late-night bar.

Police were called to The Buzz venue on High West Street in Dorchester early on Saturday, February 29 to reports of a disturbance outside the premises.

They were then made aware of a further disturbance inside the premises in which a man was assaulted.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "At 3.35am on Saturday 29 February officers were called to reports of a disturbance outside the Buzz nightclub. While in attendance, officers were informed of a further disturbance occurring inside the premises. It was reported that a man aged in his 20s had been assaulted.

"A 29-year-old Bournemouth man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and he has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"The victim was taken to hospital with injuries that were not believed to be serious and was discharged later the same day."

The Buzz bar, which is adjacent to The Spice Centre, reopened to the public on February 1 and staff say it has been well received by the community.

Robert Simpson, the manager of Buzz, confirmed that an incident had taken place, and that the music was stopped for a time while the police dealt with the incident.

He added that the bar's staff and the authorities will deal with any issues that may arise at the premises and that it is monitored by CCTV around the clock.
