A PERSON has died after being hit by a train at Stratton.
Rail services were brought to a standstill between Yeovil and Weymouth following the tragic incident.
The lines have now been reopened, and Great Western Railway has confirmed that services have resumed.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line in Stratton at 9.22am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
