The A35 was blocked after a lorry jackknifed this morning.

A lorry crashed on the westbound carriageway of the A35 at the Kingston Russell turn off, between Bridport and Winterbourne Abbas.

Fuel leaked on to road and it was closed for several hours.

Dorset Police said: "The A35 in West Dorset is currently closed due to a single vehicle collision involving a lorry in the area of Winterbourne Abbas.

"It was reported that the road was blocked in both directions.

"Officers have attended, along with the ambulance and fire services, and road closures have been put in place between Dorchester and Bridport to allow for emergency services to deal with the incident and for the vehicle to be recovered.

"Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes."

The driver of the lorry, a 50-year-old man, was checked out by the ambulance crew at the scene, but no serious injuries have been reported.

The lorry was registered to a company in Cornwall and contained scrap metal.

A significant ammount of earth and diesel had been spilled, but the road has now been reopened following a clean up.
