A LARGE tree was brought down by strong winds at a beauty spot in Weymouth.
The cypress tree - a cupressus macrocarpa - came down in Nothe Gardens over the weekend after being damaged by strong winds that hit the town.
No-one was injured by the collapse, although a seat which had just recently been donated to the park was damaged by the tree. Workers from Weymouth Town Council were at the scene this week to clear and secure the affected area.
A spokesman for Weymouth Town Council said: "The cupressus macrocarpa, which is not a protected species, has unfortunately been wind damaged beyond saving. There have been no reported injuries in relation to this tree, however a new donated seat has been damaged and council officers are contacting the donator to advise of the sad news. Weymouth Town Council arborists are currently working to make the area safe."
