No objections have been received to the removal of a number of telephone boxes in Weymouth and Portland.

BT say the boxes are seldom used and it can no longer justify maintaining them – although it has offered each to the community for a nominal £1.

Neither Portland Town Council nor Weymouth Town Council objected to the removal of the boxes at the Sea Life Centre, Lodmoor; at Lodmoor Hill, Dorchester Road, Weymouth; at the junction of Corporation Road and Links Road, Weymouth; at the junction of Tennyson Road and Cerne Villa Park, Chickerell Road; near the electric sub-station in Doncaster Road, Weymouth; in Wyke Road, Weymouth and outside the Waterside Holiday Park at Bowleaze Coveway, Weymouth.

There was no objection from Portland Town Council to the removal of the telephone box in Southwell Street although it says a community group want to ‘adopt’ it and place a heart defibrillator machine inside it.
