LYME REGIS 1

LAPFORD 5

LYME Regis crashed out of the East Devon Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage as Lapford prevailed 5-1 in their tie on Axe Valley Academy’s 3G pitch.

Lyme had switched venues from their Davey Fort base due to pitch waterlogging, but may now regret doing so for a man-made surface on which they remain winless.

Gerard Hitchcock’s men played with the wind in the first half but quickly went behind in the 11th minute as Roger Hill was given time and space to steer past Lyme keeper Rob Harp.

Lyme’s response was strong as Brad Rowe cutely flicked a Rob Fellingham free-kick home in the 25th minute.

Lapford continue to raid forward and were rewarded in the 40th minute when Dan Tucker swept home a free-kick from the left wing.

Lyme were simply not at the races in the second half as Lapford’s attack caused a multitude of problems.

Two goals in three minutes effectively sealed Lyme’s fate.

First, Josh Phillips crossed for Mark Tucker who leapt prodigiously in beating Harp to the ball, nodding home for 3-1.

Confidence was flowing and Dominic Stapleton scored arguably the goal of the game in the 55th minute after beating four defenders and chipping Harp.

Lapford were not done there and still found time for Harrison Leach to bag their fifth in the 76th minute.

Lyme entertain winless Hatherleigh on Saturday (3pm).
