TRACTORS and vintage vehicles will rev their engines as part of a special fundraiser for Mountjoy School in Beaminster.

The Friends of Mountjoy School will be holding their second tractor and vintage-vehicle road run across West Dorset in April to raise vital funds for the school.

The event is being organised by Paula Randall from Powerstock whose children attend the school.

She said: “My younger son is at Mountjoy School. He is seven-years-old, but has the mental and physical age of a 12 to 22-month-old child.

“Since being at the school we haven’t been able to praise the school enough for the work they do with him.

“Last June, our daughter started at the school too, this is our way of thanking the staff for everything they do.

“This is the second event we will be doing. Tractors are in my blood, that’s my background.

“Last year we raised £670 for the school and the money went towards toys and equipment for the children.

“This year they want the money to go towards some outdoor play equipment for the children.”

Each tractor or vintage vehicle costs £10 to enter.

The vehicles will be stopping for lunch at The Loders Arms and there will be a raffle which has been sponsored by local business owners.

Mrs Randall said: “All the local business owners were quite supportive with raffle prizes. My husband is a builder and knows all the local builder’s merchants. Every little helps.”

Last year a total of 26 tractors took part as well as a vintage lorry.

This year the Friends are hoping even more engines will get involved.

The tractor and vintage vehicle road run will take place from Mountjoy School on Saturday, April 18.

The vehicles will leave the school at 10.30am.

If you’re interested in getting involved contact Mrs Randall on 07527588406 with your information ready, so they can keep you informed and send you an entry form.

Mountjoy School is for pupils with learning difficulties, together with a range of other medical and complex learning need.
